Where does tradition begin? To answer to this question, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln began welcoming new students 1931 in a formal ceremony. Doors open at 4:15 arrive no later than 4:45 to the Devaney Center. Featured speakers include: Chancellor Harvey Perlman and Student Government President, Kevin Knudson.

New students are invited to become initiated into the Sea of Red, “the Tunnel Walk.” Students line up outside Memorial Stadium at Gate 15. Be sure to be there by 8:15. Wear a red shirt and be a part of the picture on Tom Osborne field with other members of the class of 2019.

Immediately following the group picture on the field, Husker Athletics will welcome you. Sing the Husker fight song, learn Nebraska cheers, and hear from current Husker athletes. A great way prepare for the upcoming Volleyball, Soccer and Football seasons.

Student Involvement

One of the most widely attended student events of the school year and serves as a great way to meet and have fun with other students. Party at the Union is held in the Nebraska Union and on the Plaza and includes activities such as: karaoke, caricature artist, Xbox & PS3 games, improv comedy, student group concerts, a DJ on the Plaza and more! Party at the Union ends with a pancake feed where students can enjoy a late night (or early morning?) breakfast.

The Husker Football team and The Iron N’s Boneyard

The Husker Football team and The Iron N’s Boneyard, the official student section of Nebraska Football, invites all students to the first annual “Boneyard Bash” at Memorial Stadium. This event will include student’s first look at new head coach Mike Riley 2015 Huskers with an open practice and will also feature free food, prizes and other entertainment and surprises. So make plans now to attend the Boneyard Bash to get ready for 2015 Nebraska Football Season!


Street Festival6:30-8:30 pm

Thousands of students visit the Street Festival every year. Come interact with registered student organizations, departments on campus and local business. Enjoy prizes and free food.

Calling runners of all levels!!! - Go for a morning Campus-to-campus 3.5 mile run*, enjoy a post-workout snack in the brand new East Campus Recreation & Wellness Center, and experience 20-min cool down stretch with a Yoga for Runner's session. All participants are highly encouraged to bring their N-Cards and bus passes for a FREE ride back to city campus. Busses leave every 15 minutes.

*Run leaders will be available for 3 levels of runners: beginners, intermediate and advanced.

FREE for all UNL Students, Cirque Zuma Zuma combines the mysticism of Africa with the excitement of a theatrical cirque performance. With live music and percussionists, the talented cast performs an action‐packed show of pole and aerial acts, Egyptian limbo dances, South African gumboot dances, Gabonese tumbling, and South African contortionist feats which will keep the audience breathless!

Fall Check-in4:00,5:00,6:00 pm each night

This academic check-in event takes place 4 weeks into the semester. This event offers short presentations about academic resources including time management, choosing a major, involvement in undergraduate research, and education abroad among others. Sessions start at 4:00pm, 5:00pm, or 6:00pm. Students need to only attend one session. Each session includes two presentations.
Fall Check-in dates are Sept 14, 15, 16 and 17.
